I am reaching out to HBCU EdD/Doctor of Education alumni from graduating years 2005-2015 to assist me in my study because I am interested in your EdD post-graduation/career experiences.
My book chapter, “The Emergence of the Professional Doctorate: An Analysis of Career Paths of Black EdD/Doctor of Education Awardees at Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” will be published in the forthcoming book, “Setting a New Agenda for Student Engagement and Retention in Historically Black Colleges and Universities.”
The book chapter that I am preparing for publication will attempt to explore the impact, if any, your EdD/Doctor of Education program has had on advancing your career, enhancing your career, and on your personal growth, as well as to solicit suggestions for improving the program (EdD/Doctor of Education programs at HBCU’s, in general) to better prepare graduates for career advancement. I am interested in your experiences and suggestions and would value your participation in this study.
Your participation in this study is important because it will contribute greatly to the book chapter, which will also offer suggestions for HBCU’s in better serving graduates of its EdD/Doctor of Education programs. Your voice, in the form of your participation in this study, will be critical toward the goal of assessing the impact your EdD/Doctor of Education program has had on you, as a graduate; assist HBCU’s (as a collective) in assessing if the intent of the programs are being met; and, provide the varying HBCU EdD/Doctor of Education programs with meaningful data to inform program improvements.
The overall goal of the study is to answer a single, guiding question:
“What are the career paths of HBCU Black Doctor of Education awardees?”

Your participation in this study involves the following:
- Read and complete the Introduction to Study/Informed Consent. You will be requested to participate in the study, read and understand the informed consent (your participation is voluntary, anonymous, and confidential), and given the option to receive a copy of study findings. Your contact information and telephone (or Skype) interview availability dates and times will also be requested.
- Telephone interview (or Skype). You will be asked a total of ten (10) questions that will be scheduled on a day and time that is convenient for you. The telephone interview (or Skype session) averages approximately 20 minutes to complete.
